CANNON. — In loving memory of Mr. M. Cannon (late of Sydney), who died at Hastings, Sussex, England, whilst on a visit, November 15, 1891, dearly beloved father of Mrs J. W. Leslie. So dearly loved, so deeply mourned.
There is a record of emigration from Liverpool, estimated age similar, in 1864.
So far, so good.
But, searching for his presence in Sydney we came across a marriage record in 1858.
Australia Marriages, 1810-
Principal Martin Cannon -
Parents Thadeus Cannon, Bridget Kafferky
Spouse Hannah Chisholm
Catholic Church, Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia
Hannah Chisholm was born in Invmers, Scotland
Now it becomes more complicated. Do we have the right Martin Cannon?
It would seem so; here is a death notice for his eldest daughter, Christian name ‘Hannah’. The same daughter who published the death notice of Martin.
LESLIE.—May 20, 1899, at her residence, Gray-
Another death notice adds credence:
CANNON.—August 5, 1901. at her late residence, 178 Trafalgar-
The children are the same as noted in his daughter Hannah’s death notice.
But no relevant records of divorce, or marriage with Eliza have yet been found.
