MR. J. W. E. CHUBB cont.:  He took a keen interest in politics and was vice-president the Conservative Club for several years.  He had been engaged in several political fights, beginning with the election Mr. Wilson Noble as Borough Member in 1886……. On several occasions he had the privilege of proposing the adoptions of candidates in the Market Hall. But declined repeated requests to stand as candidate for the Town Council, but stood for election to the School Board, which preceded the present education Committee, and within the last few years he also stood for election to the Board of Guardians. During the War he frequently received telegrams of important events.  At the Relief of Mafeking he organised a great outdoor thanksgiving meeting. He also arranged free entertainment in the Market Hall, on which occasion George-street was crowded from end to end and an overflow concert was held near the Lifeboat House.  About the same time he organised a meeting in George-street when the tradesmen sent a telegram to Queen Victoria and received a gracious reply.

Mr. Chubb was married years ago to Miss M. A. Cleavley, of Wellingborough, who survives him.  He also leaves two daughters. Miss Edith Chubb and Mrs. G. James, and one son, Mr. J. F. Chubb.  He also has four grandsons.  All his children have inherited his musical talent. Miss Edith Chubb is music lecturer at St. Katharine's College, Tottenham, and Mr. J. F. Chubb is organist for Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver.  Mrs. James, who now lives at Wimbledon, has a rich soprano voice and formerly belonged to the Operatic Society run by the late Mr. John Baker Guy.  The late Miss Ethel Chubb, third daughter, who died a few years ago, was organist at Brede Parish Church for some time.

 THE FUNERAL. The funeral service was held at the Fishermen's Church last Friday afternoon. The church was packed, and groups people stood about Kock-a-Nore-road as the cortege passed. As the coffin arrived in the church a beautiful cross flowers was placed on it from tho choir and workers of the Fishermen's Church. The chief mourners were the widow, Miss Edith and Mrs. F. J. James (daughters), Mr. James (son-in-law)............................…

65 Years In the Old Town MRS. M. A. CHUBB
A Hastings resident for nearly 65 years, Mrs.
Mary Ann Chubb, widow of Mr John W. B. Chubb, died her home at “Brlarmead.” 6 Fairlight Avenue, on Friday !aat week, in her 94th year. For some time she had been  living with one of her two daughters, Miss Edith Chubb, conductor of the Old Town Choral Society and formerly mueic lecturer at St. Katharine’s College, Tottenham.  Mrs. Cubb, who came to the town from Northampton for health reasons, was for many years a keen worker for the borough church of St. Clement, .....

Mr. and  Mrs. Chubb celebrated their golden wedding annlversary in 1927. Mrs Chubb has two daughters and a son,  Mr. Frederick Chubb, who now lives in Victoria, B.C., Canada, four grandsons and three great grandsons.

 The funeral service was at St. Clement’s Church on Tuesday, the Rev, J. Napier (rector) officiating. The Rural Dean, the Rev. J. C, Porte, read the lesson.  Mr. Rex Gutsell was the organist.  The immediate mourners were Mies Edith Chubb, Mr.and Mrs. FredericK J.James and Mr. Geoffrey James. Others present Included Canon Foyster and Miss C. Foyster,....…
