FOOTNOTE: When this story was originally researched it was exceedingly difficult to extract a coherent account from the records and a lot of questions were left unresolved.  Thanks to information from Ian Graham-Jones and looking at everything again this has been entirely rewritten.

Just one example (others are referred to in the text)

Records show a Martha De Selvier, born in Gosport, Hampshire, married to one Albert De Selvier, born in Russia, but living with them was a Violet De Selvier, born at Blackrock.  This time round I have taken the liberty of deciding it is wrongly transcribed - until someone tells me differently.

An item sold on e-Bay has an interesting sidelight -

"Arthur S. Sullivan" signature, which was scripted by the music specialist in black fountain pen. The signature and inscription exhibit "10" strength. His message, directed to a "Mr. De Selvier," requests: "Will you please send tomorrow for the Piano you delivered some time ago to Mrs. Richardson, Youth Buildings - It is now at Mrs. Herbert's, 45 Upper Stamford St., Waterloo Road and please sent the bill to me."
