Death of an Old Inhabitant.— It is with regret that we have to record the death of Mary Ann, widow of the late Mr. F. Crisford, who passed away peacefully on Thursday last at her residence, Inglenook, St. Leonards.

Although born near Buxted, in Sussex, she came to St. Leonards with her parents as an infant, in 1829 or 1830, and has consequently been an inhabitant nearly all her life—a period of over 65 years.

As a daughter of the late Stephen Putland, J.P., and Mrs. Putland, the deceased lady was the second of eleven children, and was twice married—first to Mr. R. F. Davis, who died in 1860, and next to Mr. F. Crisford, who died 1865.

Mr. Davis was a well-known and respected grocer, who, when he died, left four sons, two of whom, as survivors, are Messrs. R. L. and S. K. Davis, both of St Leonards. [CRISFORD, Mrs Mary Ann. Grocer, no.22 London Rd, 1867.  In the 1891 census she is listed as “Retired Grocer”]

The second husband, Mr. Crisford, who at his death left one son, the present Mr. F. G. Crisford, was connected with the Wesleyan body, with which Mrs. Crisford was also associated from early life, first as a worshipper at the old Bourne Street Chapel, in Hastings, and afterwards at the chapel in Norman-road, which was erected in 1836.

Besides her three surviving children, Mrs. Crisford leaves two brothers, Mr. Thomas Putland, a member of the Tunbridge Wells Corporation, and Mr. C. D. Putland, of St Leonards, to mourn her death.
