Funeral Mr. Tru Todd. well known in the Old Town, Mr. Tru Todd, of Fairlight Cottage. 6. East Beach-street, died suddenly Thursday last week at the age of 70 years. Mr. Todd, who leaves a widow to mourn his loss, had been in business for many years as a fish salesman, and will be remembered for his stand at “Amoore's" corner for 50 years with shrimps. He was also a keen worker for the Conservative Party and in this connection made many friends.

Prior to the interment at the Borough Cemetery on Monday, a service was held in the Fishermen's Church, where the Rev, E. A. Penson officiated, and the hymns, Rock of Ages" and Lover of my Soul," were sung. Four fishermen friends. Messrs. G. Haddon. C. Adams, B. White and F. Wingfield. acted as bearers.

 

Among the congregation who had gathered were Bros. R. F. Bout wood (treasurer), A. R. T. Martin (secretary) and S. H. YVoollett (senior woodward), members of the Ancient Order of Foresters, of which Mr. Todd had been member for 21 years.  As the cortege passed the Fishmarket, a two minutes silence was observed fby ishermen in memory of one of their old friends, and business was suspended as a tribute to the deceased.

 

The immediate mourners were: Mrs. E. Todd (widow). Mr. T. Allum (nephew), Mrs. E. West (niece). Mr. C. Gannon (nephew), Mrs. E. Rich (niece), Mr. A. Allum (nephew). Aunt Betsy., Mr. G. Rich (nephew). Mrs. H. White (niece). Messrs. T. and J. Rich (nephews). Mr. and Mrs. McDougall (nephew niece), Mrs. Kearn (niece). Miss P. McDougall. Mr. K. Gannon (brother-in-law)…..  [there follows a long list of attendees, wreaths sent etc.]


The whole of the funeral arrangements were conducted by Mr. J. H. Sims, undertaker, 50, All Saints'-street, Hastings, who gave every satisfaction. Mrs. Todd wishes to thank all kind friend in Hastings. London. Sheerness and elsewhere who sent letters of sympathy and floral tributes during her sad bereavement: also the nurse. Mrs. F. Feist, for her kind help.  The letters received bv Mrs. Todd were so numerous she finds it impossible to answer all of them personally.

Tru Todd was born in Canterbury.  He married Elizabeth Allum at St Clements, Hastings, on the 1st December 1884.
