Henry Philpot & Family

The Philpot family are buried in AV H03, AV I03 and AV K01.  The photo shows a double plot with fallen cross.

The cemetery records show Henry Beeching Philpot and his wife Mary Anne buried AV K01.

In Loving Memory of Henry Beeching Philpot of Filsham Lodge, Died 21st February 1915, aged 71.  Thou oh Christ,art all I want

Mary Anne died on 11th April 1924 aged 78.

Also remembered on this plot are sisters, Rose Ellen and May B. Beck

To the Dear Memory of Rose Ellen Philpot, Born 29th September 1877, Died Suddenly 15th September 1928 and her sister May B Beck. (Buried in AV H03)

Also buried in AV H03 are:

Edith Winser Philpot, Daughter of Charles and Fanny Philpot died aged 2 years 6 months, 29th January 1872

Emily May Philpot, Daughter of Charles and Fanny Philpot, died aged 2, 5th April 1874

Fanny Philpot, Mother of Edith Winser and Emily May Philpot, died aged 26th October 1875 aged 29.

In AV I03 (which has a large tree growing on it) are buried:

John Philpot Died 9th April 1870 aged 58

William John Philpot died 18th July 1878 aged 40.

Mary Philpot died 9th January 1880 aged 74.

PHILPOT’S. Drapers, at no’s 37 - 38 Marina, St Leonards opened as a ‘lace and cap’ shop in 1836, and closed in 1986 by which time their address was 37 - 40 Marine Court.  At no.37 Marina the Misses Philpot, needlewomen, lived since 1830s, they opened their first business in Marina Colonnade in 1829.  In 1839 at no.38 was John Philpot, boot & shoemaker. Mrs Mary Philpot was a milliner, draper haberdasher from 1839 - 1861. William John Philpot was listed in the street diectories as a ‘silk mercer, draper & furrier, dressmaking, millinery, mantles & jackets, gloves, hosiery, ribbons, laces, corsets & skirts, family mourning’, 1867 - 1874 at no.38 Marina.
