Old Townsman.—Mr. Stephen Putland, eldest son of the late Mr. Stephen Putland, Alderman, died on Friday morning last in his 60th year. Although never a prominent public man, he took great interest in local matters, and there are few who were better known and esteemed in St. Leonards than the deceased gentleman.

The Secretary then presented his report, which commenced by expressing deep regret at the death of the President, Mr. Stephen Putland, who was one of the founders of the institution in 1848 and who had always taken a most practical interest it.

<In this grave, BK K10, records show three people are buried, Sarah Jane Manger, who died in 1990, Mary Ann Crisford, who died in 1894, both daughters of Stephen Putland Senior and Mary Catherine Lisenden who died in 1911.
The memorial on the stone as far as can be discerned, is to Mary Ann only.
The link to Mary Catherine is not clear but George Manger, husband of Sarah, attended her funeral, and was the beneficiary of her will.
